…we talked to Ken and he said he’d beach off Ken way harder than Barbie ever could. Grip strength aside, we looked at a handful of popular beaches in the Northeast to find out more about the beach going set. We looked at a geographically diverse list of beaches from Maine to the Jersey Shore:

York Beach – Maine
Hampton Beach – NH
Salisbury Beach – MA
Revere Beach – MA
Cahoon Hollow Beach – Cape Cod MA
Galley Beach & Steps Beach – Nantucket MA

In the last 6 weeks we’ve seen about 63 thousand unique devices on those beaches, and so this is a nice cross section of… everyone.
Quorum can create GeoFences anywhere (like, around beaches) and look back 30 days or more for past activity. We waited only a couple of days for this data to populate and process, and then got deep insight in to the real world behavior of these 45M beachgoers.
One thing is for sure- people are willing to travel to get to the beach. We looked at the home location for every device and found the following average mileage that beach goers traveled to get to the beach.
373.2 mi. – Galley Beach and Steps Beach – Nantucket
254.4 mi. – Old Orchard Beach Maine
199.0 mi. – Edgartown Beach – Marthas Vineyard MA
197.5 mi. – Jones Beach – Wantagh NY
196.9 mi. – Hampton Beach New Hampshire
195.5 mi. – Asbury Park Beach – New Jersey
177.4 mi. – Long Beach Island – New Jersey
174.7 mi. – York Beach – York Maine
170.3 mi. – Cahoon Hollow Beaach – Cape Cod MA
136.5 mi. – Salisbury Beach – Salisbury MA
134.3 mi. – Revere Beach – Revere MA
No surprise that more people in Nantucket have gone further to get to the beach than the locals in Revere, but it’s easy to see that this is an audience that likes to travel. Fun fact about Revere and Jones beachgoers is that more of them have been to a Kia dealership in the same timeframe than to any other car brand. Long Beach Island prefers Nissan, while all the others went with domestic brands. Nantucket beaches, New Hampshire and Maine lead for the number of beachgoers who have been to a bicycle shop.
If you’re looking for the fittest beachgoers, Old Orchard Beach is your spot. Those folks have the highest affinity for gyms like Orangetheory, Crunch, Crossfit, YMCA, Planet Fitness and others. Next in line is Martha’s Vineyard, then Asbury Beach in New Jersey. If you want to sit back and have a few beers with the chillest beach bums around, mosey on down to Long Beach Island New Jersey – they’re in a distant last place!
