Ahhh, The Great Outdoors! We looked at the top 25 KOA Campgrounds in the US to learn more about the shopping habits of campers. Maybe you’ll be as surprised as we were – the most likely business for campers to visit (aside from RV and Boat stores) is the nearest motel to each campground.

Their food preference is resolute – campers LOVE pizza. The top 4 restaurant chains visited by campers are all pizza: Dominos, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and Marcos Pizza. The rest of the top 25 most popular QSR’s with campers are the usual mix, full list below.

Looking at the other shopping habits of KOA campers yields some other interesting surprises. Studying the percentage of overlapping visitors yields a list of the most popular business categories by affinity – the most likely commercial activities for these KOA campers. Because of the high percentage of RV campers we see so many automotive and RV related business visits that we’ll exclude them from this list – if you sell RVs or RV parts you can rest assured your customers are found at campgrounds nationwide. A little bit less intuitive, perhaps, comes the notion that campers are doing some other fun things outside the campground that probably aren’t very campy at all. Certain categories split duties, like groceries and big box stores, so don’t be surprised by some of the mixed rankings.
